Regal London, in an exclusive partnership with Building Heroes, have launched their first Regal London Real Estate Academy, a pop-up construction skills centre on Clarendon Road in Watford ahead of a second site launching in Brent this summer.
The real estate developer is the first to establish on-site training academies for both military veterans and local groups in London at its developments to support and generate positive social value in the local communities in which it operates.
The Regal London Real Estate Academy will be located on Regal London’s Clarendon Road site for the duration of the construction works and will see cohorts of both ex-military learners and local people over this time.
Each year, the Academies will provide training and employment opportunities to around 160 military veterans and people from often marginalised communities. It is estimated that these two Academies will collectively generate nearly £5 million of social value per year using the National TOMS social value framework.
The Regal London Real Estate Academies are a key pillar of our wider sustainability strategy. Our partnership with Building Heroes has enabled us to open the doors to our construction site in Watford and to deliver real, positive social value for the wider communities in which we work.
The extensive skills shortages in the construction sector have been widely documented. Our Academies will provide new opportunities for learners to join the construction sector and to continue to build a career, whether for the first time, mid-career or following active service.
We’re ensuring that we’re playing our part, both through creating beautiful homes and commercial spaces and in our approach to sharing the benefits of our developments with our neighbours.
Jonathan Seal
CEO, Regal London
With over 15,000 veterans entering the wider workforce this year, the launch of the Regal London Real Estate Academies in partnership with ourselves comes at an opportune moment to provide valuable training and employment opportunities to significant numbers of both those connected to the military and local people.
Working with Regal London, we are able to expand our offering and help not only veterans and their families, but local people too. This is an opportunity to share our highly successful programmes more widely and to effect real, long-lasting change for those who need it most.
Brendan Williams
Founder and Chief Executive, Building Heroes
Each Academy will host a minimum of six programmes a year, with each programme running for five weeks. Learners will secure a Level 1 Diploma in construction skills, a L1 Health & Safety Award and a CSCS Card. Learners will also have the opportunity to engage more broadly with the Regal London supply chain, and the business itself, with many securing employment as a result.
To date, Building Heroes has worked with over 1,000 military veterans, providing construction skills and training, and supporting them into sustainable employment in the building and engineering trades.
