Orchard Wharf is a designated Safeguarded Wharf located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Since late 2016, we have been in collaborative discussions with the Port of London Authority (PLA), the Greater London Authority (GLA) and LBTH regarding the redevelopment of the site. Earlier in May 2024 we submitted a planning application, and expect to have permission in place by early 2025 so construction can commence.
A plan is to transform Orchard Wharf with architect Howells by creating a new sustainable, vibrant, and mixed community which features affordable homes, purpose-built student accommodation, and an urban freight logistics port catering to London’s last-mile distribution needs.
MIXED USE PROJECT in TOWER HAMLETS
The plans for Orchard Wharf include 208 new affordable homes (equivalent to 35% affordable housing), through the provision of private amenities such as a ground floor cafe, community hub, 7,400m² of new open space including place areas, landscaped gardens and family sized apartments featuring panoramic views.
In addition, there will be 1,365 student beds addressing the high demand for student housing in London, contributing significantly to the London Plan’s yearly requirement for student bed spaces. Both tenures will be located atop the Wharf Box, sharing a podium with communal facilities that bring all residents together.
We are also investing in activities to enhance the public realm, including a small retail and a Visitor Centre serving existing and emerging communities.
