Stonebridge Boxing Club, a charity with over 650 members, has been granted permission by the London Borough of Brent for a new building on the site of the former King Edward VII Park pavilion, with the support of Regal, who has provided pro-bono planning support throughout the process.
The approved development will replace an unused, dilapidated structure with a modern facility encompassing a new gym and sporting areas, physio rooms, office space, changing facilities, and a café open to the public. The Brent Planning Committee’s decision underscores the value of the proposed development to the community and its substantial community and recreational benefits.
For the last year, Regal has worked in partnership with Stonebridge Boxing Club, and have provided premises on High Road, Wembley, and now space on Watkin Road in Wembley Park, ensuring that the boxing club could continue to operate. By providing a dedicated space for youth and community activities, the new facility aims to keep young people off the streets, offering them a positive and structured environment for physical activity and personal development. This initiative is particularly crucial given the alarming health statistics in Brent: one in three children are obese by the time they leave primary school, and it is estimated that by 2034, 70% of adults will be overweight or obese. Brent is also the fourth most inactive borough in London, with lower-than-average participation in sports, particularly among females and Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities.
The new facility will provide a safe, welcoming environment where residents can engage in sports and fitness activities, thereby reducing the risk of youth involvement in gang activities and serious crime.
The new facility will animate the park, improving its safety and utility for the local community. The project will offer key public benefits, such as a new modern boxing facility serving the local community, enhanced park safety through increased activity and natural surveillance, and a new building that enhances the park’s setting in line with heritage considerations. Additionally, the development will include landscape and habitat improvements with new trees planted. It will also promote sustainable transport with ample cycle parking, and provide local employment and investment opportunities during both construction and operational phases.
King Edward VII Park, a locally listed heritage asset, was established in 1913 and opened to the public in 1914. The park features formal plantings, sports facilities, and various amenities. The new development will respect this heritage while providing modern, high-quality facilities.
“We have partnered with Stonebridge Boxing Club for the last two years, not only providing pro-bono support and premises but also working with the many young people who come through the doors each day. The boxing club provides an incredible, supportive environment for the hundreds of people of all ages who attend each week, encouraging physical and mental wellness alongside a really strong sense of community.
I am delighted to have been able to play a small part in ensuring the stable continuation of the boxing club in their own purpose-built premises in King Edward VII Park and look forward to seeing the green space brought to life.”

“The club has moved locations five times in the last few years, so to finally have confirmation of our new permanent home is a dream come true – and we would not have been able to achieve this without Regal’s help and support. Stonebridge Boxing Club’s membership reflects Brent in all its diversity, and we proudly open our doors to people from all backgrounds.
We provide a structured, disciplined environment in which to learn, train and practice, with a supportive, positive and respectful ethos. We are delighted to be able to continue to support more local people in this way in our very own facility, with thanks to the Regal team.”
